Everyone always loves knowing what equipment other people are using. And everyone’s gear is always changing as things sometimes don’t work out as you planned. I talk about some of my gear after the jump!
These days I’m shooting with a Nikon D750. Previously, I shot with a D700 and a Fujifilm X100s and prior to that the D80. Before the digital age? Well I had a Canon AE-1P. I still have it and actually want to throw a roll of film in it now as we speak! When I went digital I went with Nikon since most of my friends were shooting Nikon so it was a good way to get started. I recommend this for new photographers because you can borrow and try out their lenses and learn from them and pick up tips and tricks. I’ll post up more reasons in a future post about what camera to buy!
At the moment I’ve swapped out my Nikkor 2.8 zooms for Sigma primes mostly. The primes lenses travel better since they are smaller and lighter so for each trip I’ll just grab what I think I’ll need. I do have an ultra wide also. I picked up the Tamron 15-30 F2.8 and am loving it as well.
As for the Fuji, I really wanted to like the mirrorless cameras because of the weight and size but I just found myself fumbling through the menus when trying to get a shot but every once in a while I find myself look at them again. If you’ve got tips or recommendations I’d love to hear them!
As for travel gear I recently picked up a Chrome Industries Niko Backpack. I’m excited to give it a shot on my trip to San Francisco. Check back for a review on that!
My oldest camera bag that has stayed with me through the years is my Domke F4AF with USPS shoulder pad. After trying out various Lowepro and Tamrac bags the Domke worked out the best for me. These days I prefer to carry more discreet bags but my Domke definitely has served me well and I still use it for studio or on location work.
How do you protect your gear when traveling?
